The David Thom Band has been a fixture on the west coast bluegrass scene since they formed in 1996. David Thom, lead vocals and guitar, is the former guitarist and singer for the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, and brings that work history to the stage. Thom, himself a masterful instrumentalist, is highly regarded out west as a talented and creative singer.
Band members include Paul Shelasky on fiddle, Andy Shaw on banjo, Brian Judd on mandolin, and Jeff King on bass. Everyone contributes to the vocal harmonies.
The David Thom Band has played at The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival , the Grass Valley Father’s Day Festival, the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, Strawberry Music Festival, The Great American Music Hall, and a long list of smaller festivals and fairs.
With the release of That Old Familiar (Swollen Records, 2011) David and his band seek to emerge onto the national market and share the powerful, tradition-minded bluegrass California is becoming synonymous with.
